Grants For Women

Many women give up the opportunity to complete their degree so they can marry and raise children. Once your children are in school or are in need of a race to bring a little extra money for the family, many of these women really want to go back to school. They often feel, however, that is impossible, and mistakenly assume that all the money for higher education is aimed at high school kids. The good news is that there are a variety of grants and scholarships available to women who want to return to school and get a degree, just know where to look for them.

One option is the Jeannette Rankin Foundation, which provides money to low-income women who are 35 or older and want to return to school. Scholarships are available $ 2. 000 for women who can demonstrate how a degree will help them improve their lives, the situations of their families and community as a whole.

The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting provides money to women who wish to obtain a graduate degree in accounting. The award ranges from $ 1,000 to $ 5,000.

Sometimes women are faced with a situation where they need to return to work after leave, either to have a baby at home or way of working for a while. When this happens, many find they lack the skills necessary to compete with new college graduates in the field. Possible Woman Foundation International offers scholarships of $ 2,000 or $ 4,000 for women in this situation, allowing them to re-enter the workforce with new skills they need to succeed.

If you have a college degree and are looking to improve on it, consider the Fellowship of certain professions. These are sponsored by the American Association of University Women, and offer large sums of money, between $ 5,000 and $ 20,000, women returning to graduate school in a specific field such as architecture, science, computer and information, mathematics and statistics, or engineering.

Although many of the grants focus on women who are pursuing a degree in science or math, there are some women artists. For example, the College Art Association offers $ 5,000 scholarships to applicants from communities that are marginalized from the crafts and the National Sculpture Society offers $ 1,000 for students wishing to study culture.

These are just some of the many options out there for women returning to school. Remember, you left school to care for her family. Now is the time for you to do something for yourself, so you and they can have a brighter future!
